HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR
BUSINESSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Your Chamber of Commerce needs your help. Continuing a tradition which began in 2003, the Granby Chamber will recognize its "Business Person of the Year" and "Humanitarian of the Year" at our Annual Dinner Meeting, scheduled for Monday, January 24, 2011 at Cambridge House Brew Pub. Only those nominated by Chamber members are eligible to receive these awards.

The "Business Person" honors a business owner or manager who is a Chamber member, a successful entrepreneur and a contributor to the Granby business community. Last year's recipient was Lori Love of Granby Village Health, and previous winners include: Mike Keating of Granby Pharmacy, Joan Russell and Diann Meyers of Beman's Hardware, Mike Guarco of Stateline Oil, Kurt Burkhart of Arrow Concrete, Susan King of Lite 'N Up Eatery and Jim Nilsson of Geissler's Supermarkets.

The "Humanitarian of the Year" Award is given annually to an individual for exceptional contributions to charitable causes, community projects or the public domain. Last year's recipient, Mary Anne Guarco, joins previous honorees Gail & Jack Adams, Allen Christensen, Tom Sullivan, David Shupp, Roberta & Bruce Sullivan and Al Wilke. The Humanitarian need not be a Chamber member.

Please submit your nominations no later than January 1st of each year to Committee Chair Bob Marx at his home address: 270 Simsbury Road, West Granby, CT 06090, or e-mail to: bmarx@LMTours.com or by fax at (860) 844-8692.

Explanation of Awards

The Business Person of the Year must be a Chamber member in good standing who has had a positive effect on the Granby business community. The committee recognizes the importance of the business to the community as well as personal accomplishments and Chamber involvement.

The Humanitarian of the Year is someone who has devoted their time toward helping people in the Granby community. We purposely keep the criteria vague, so that the committee may consider a person's body of work and their impact on others. In this category we have recognized volunteer ambulance drivers, a retiring fire chief, charity fund raisers, Holcomb Farm volunteers, etc.
